Thamkrabok was founded in 1957 by Luang Poh yaai (mae shee mian parnchand)
Luang poh Chamroon Parnchand
and Charoen Parnchand.
Beside being a place to practice the Dhamma and a centre for Buddhists,

There have been many drug addicts from Thailand and from other countries.
In the year 1975 Luang Poh Chamroon Parnchand received a Magsaysay Award in Public Service,from the Philippines.
Luang Poh Chamroon was later known as Luang Poh Magsaay.
In the year 1999 Luang Poh Chamroon Parnchand passed away.

He continued the work of helping drug addicts.
Thamkrabok Monastery and Thamkrabok Foundation under the guidance of Luang Poh Charoen became known worldwide.

Luang Poh Boonsong overseaa the management of the Monastery. Thamkrabok continues to help drug addicts. Thamkrabok policy continues to develop mankind and society with the sajja teaching.

The Rececpyion offce of Thamkrabok opens everyday at 10am .until 5 pm.
Any Drug addictcan obtain advices from the monk in the office.
there is no chanrge for the treatment.
The patiant must voluntarily want to be admitted to The centre.After fillng in the necessary forms,
the patient have to change into a Thamkrabok uniform.

the most important part of the treatment of drug addicts at Thamkrabok is the taking of The Sajja(sacred vow) using the natural Elements as the witnesses.
The drug sajja is:i will not smoke consume or inject, i will not encourage others to smoke,consume,or inject,

i will not possess or encounrage other to possess i will nit buy or sell any kind of addictive drugs including opiates,cocaine,cannabis gatom leaves, or methamphetamines for the rest of my life.’’
After the Sajja ceremony,the monk will explain the rules.
and conditions of how to live together by following the Sajja teachings in the centre
A monk can be consulted at all times.
The first 5 days patients will have to take the Herbal madicine which is called ‘’Yaa Dtat’’
The herdal medicine will detox the body of any poison left by drugs

After taking the herbal medicine ,a lot of water should be taken to bring out the toxins left in the body.
there will be monks administering the taking of the herbal medicine.
After the firth day,the ‘’black pills’’and the ‘’herbal tea’’ will be given to the patients everyday for the duration of thair stay.

these will help to rehabilitate the physical body after the detox.
All patients must attend the ‘’herbal steam bath’’ every afternoon.This will give strength and relaxation.
There are four types of herbs in the steam bath
-citrinella,morning glory,castor leaves, and leaves of another type of grass called “Yaa Kah’’.
After detoxification,rehabilitation is necessary.

The patients must have something to do thair spare time.
The Monastery has many small jobs for the patients to do,like sweeping the ground.
there is also a garden for the patients to work at they so wish.

They can learn from monks to make bricks and objects with ceramic and clay.

The patients can play sports they like , table-tennis ,football.Exercise brings good health and relaxation.

Once a week there is a Dhamma class for foreign patients.
Madiation class for foreign patients is conducted every morning.
Patients are welcomed to listen to the monks and nuns chant in the evening.
