每天都活在生死邊緣的人很難有這樣的問題.
聽聞一些僧人修入出息念有很高的修為時, 將會自己知道將會何時死,如何死. 這些和尚相信也不會對自己的命運起落有什麼問題.
而隨著科技日益進步, 相信在不久的將來, 人類將會真正推算得出自己的壽命, 他人的壽命, 以致於地球的壽命, 知道自己何時死去的凡夫不知道是好受還是不好受吧?
但我始終十分應同一位羅馬皇帝的說法:
“Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn't matter.
Cold or warm. Tired or well-rested. Despised or honored. Dying...or busy with other assignments.
Because dying, too, is one of our assignments in life. There as well: "To do what needs doing." Look inward. Don't let the true nature of anything elude you.
Before long, all existing things will be transformed, to rise like smoke (assuming all things become one), or be dispersed in fragments...to move from one unselfish act to another with God in mind.
Only there, delight and stillness...when jarred, unavoidably, by circumstances, revert at once to yourself, and don't lose the rhythm more than you can help. You'll have a better grasp of the harmony if you keep going back to it.” |
